Roullete is a casino game in which a ball is dropped into a rotating wheel with numbered holes. Players place bets on a single number, various groupings of numbers, the color red or black, whether the number is odd or even, and if the numbers are high (19-36) or low (1-18). The game’s origin is disputed, with fanciful stories including that it was invented by 17th century French mathematician Blaise Pascal or by a Dominican monk. It was probably derived from earlier games such as hoca and portique. It reached its present form in the late 18th century and became one of the most popular games in the casinos and gambling dens of Europe.
