Whether you’re a horse owner or a horse fan, there are some things you should watch out for during a horse race. You should notice how your horse behaves and if it’s sweating. If it does, it probably isn’t feeling well. You should also watch for sweat spots on the horse’s coat, especially near the kidneys, because that means your horse is nervous and wasting energy. Steeplechase race The steeplechase is a type of long distance horse race, where competitors jump fences and ditches. It is conducted throughout Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, and Australia. The majority of steeplechase races take place in France and Australia. The steeplechase is a three-kilometer course, and the runners must jump over four obstacles. The course features four barriers and a water pit which is about 12 feet long. It is important that the athlete is careful and does not catch their leg in the water. Harness race Harness racing is a horse racing style in which horses pull a two-wheeled cart known as a sulky or a spider, which is occupied by the driver. It has been around for centuries and is one of the oldest forms of horse racing. Today, there are thousands of harness race events around the world. Harness racing is an extremely fast-paced sport that requires quick decision making and split-second timing. It has been shown that a horse will travel further if it is five feet away from the rail. American Triple Crown In American horse racing, the Triple Crown consists of three major races for three-year-old Thoroughbreds. To win a Triple Crown, a horse must win all three races. This feat is rare and requires a lot of luck and determination. Only thirteen horses have ever achieved the feat. In addition to the Triple Crown, horse racing offers a wide variety of specialty bets that require a higher skill level but can be very lucrative. Popular bets include Exactas, trifectas and daily doubles. Belmont Stakes The Belmont Stakes is one of the most prestigious horse races in the world. First run in 1866, it is the third leg of the Triple Crown. The race will be broadcast live on NBC and CNBC on Saturday, June 11. The main event will start at 6:44 p.m. ET and will feature eight other graded stakes and three Breeders’ Cup qualifying races. You can watch live coverage on NBC, CNBC, or fuboTV. Only nine horses have ever won the Belmont Stakes. The first one was Saxon in 1874, and seven other winners were from Ireland and the UK. The last non-US winner was Victory Gallop in 1990. The Belmont Stakes field is limited to twelve runners to ensure safety. Horses that have won other races are guaranteed to start in the race. Otherwise, qualifying is based on career earnings. If a horse has an outstanding career record, he may be able to make up for his lack of winnings in other races. King’s Plates The King’s Plates horse race is one of the oldest and most prestigious in horse racing. Initially, the race was restricted to horses that were six years old and weighed 168 pounds. It was later lowered to 140 pounds for four-year-olds, and five-year-olds were allowed to compete. The race is held at Newmarket, Suffolk, and is considered to be the birthplace of English racing. The race is traditionally run in early summer. However, due to the outbreak of the equine influenza, it was pushed back to the third weekend of September in 2020. Previously, the race was run the third weekend of August. The date for the next King’s Plate will be decided in due course by the racing, marketing and wagering departments. The date must be appropriate for the time of year and day of the week.
